Newly-promoted Inverness CT coasted into the second round of the League Cup - where they will be joined by the other SPL clubs not in Europe - thanks to a 3-0 win over Queen's Park.

Lex Cox gave Terry Butcher's men an interval lead before second-half goals from Eric Odhiambo and Ross Tokely sealed a comfortable home victory for Caley Thistle.

Meanwhile, Celtic hit back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Lyon in the Emirates Cup. New signing Gary Hooper and Georgios Samaras netted in the last eight minutes of the match.

AEK Athens edged out Rangers 1-0 to win the Sydney Festival of Football while a Craig Thomson double and an Eggert Jonsson goal helped Hearts overcome Millwall 3-2 in London.

Aberdeen lost 1-0 to Mark McGhee's former club Brighton while trialist  Irmantas Zelmikas scored at both ends as Dundee United went down 2-1 to Hull City.

St Mirren began their tour of Northern Ireland with a 2-0 win over Ballymena thanks to goals from new signing Paul McQuade and Craig Dargo.

A crowd of 4,555 turned up at McDiarmid Park in a testimonial match for long-serving goalkeeper Alan Main. St Johnstone were beaten 3-2 by a Manchester United XI in an entertaining match.
