Landmark goal for Murphy
Jamie Murphy became Motherwell's all-time leading scorer in Europe but Craig Brown's men were pegged back by Aalesunds for a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Europa League qualifier.
Scotland U21 frontman Murphy pounced early in the second half in Norway for his sixth European goal - a strike that took him past Steve Kirk's record - to give Well a valuable advantage.
But in stoppage time Alexander Mathisen equalised from the spot after Steven Saunders had been penalised for a foul in the box, leaving the tie finely balanced for the Fir Park return.
Motherwell boss Craig Brown said: "I thought they weren't going to manage to score but it's a solid result. We're not getting carried away. It's only half-time so we are not complacent.
"We played very, very assured football and defended competently. It was a terrific goal Jamie scored. He deserves it because he's a conscientious boy. He puts a shift in for the team."
