New Don made captain
New Aberdeen signing Paul Hartley has been made club captain following his return to the Clydesdale Bank Premier League after a spell in the Championship with Bristol City.
The 33-year-old Scotland midfielder, whose previous clubs include Hamilton, St Johnstone, Hearts and Celtic opted to move to Pittodrie ahead of a return to Tynecastle.
Hartley said: "Hearts was an option but as soon as I spoke to Mark McGhee and Willie Miller I knew they really wanted to bring me to the club. They sold the club. Aberdeen have always been a massive club and the challenge is to get them back up there.
"The big thing is to challenge for honours. It's been far too long since Aberdeen won any silverware. People talk about the top six but we have got to aim higher than that."
