Weekend previews

Only four points separate the leading quartet of clubs ahead of fixture round 14 in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League, with leaders Celtic at home to Aberdeen, in-form Hibernian hosting Motherwell and Falkirk entertaining Rangers in three of the weekend's big games.

Celtic go into the weekend two points clear at the top and are looking for their third home win in the space of a week after victories over St Mirren in the SPL and Hapoel Tel-Aviv in the Europa League. Celtic are unbeaten at home in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League since losing to Rangers more than 15 months ago and won 3-1 at Pittodrie on the opening day. The Dons, who last won an SPL match at Parkhead back in October 2004 - 3-2 thanks to a last-minute John Stewart goal - are seeking an Old Firm double after defeating Rangers 1-0 at Pittodrie last time out.

Dundee United (4) v St Mirren (9) – Saturday, 3pm

It was 0-0 when the clubs clashed in Paisley in August – a result that extended Dundee United’s unbeaten SPL sequence against St Mirren to seven games since Saints won 2-0 at Tannadice in May 2007. Craig Levein's team have lost just once this season – at home to Motherwell in September – and have scored twice in each of their last four outings. The visitors are without a win in five matches since winning at Falkirk but have failed to net only once in that period.

Falkirk (12) v Rangers (2) – Saturday, 12.30pm
Last five form: Falkirk DLDWL Rangers WDWWL

Falkirk’s last win over Rangers was three years ago yesterday – 1-0 at The Falkirk Stadium - but the Light Blues have won the last 10 meetings between the clubs across three competitions. The Bairns have picked up four points from their two recent home games against Celtic and Hamilton but remain at the foot of the table, a point behind Kilmarnock. Rangers saw their 21-match unbeaten SPL sequence end at Aberdeen but they retain the best defensive record on the road.

Hibernian (3) v Motherwell (5) – Saturday, 3pm
Last five form: Hibernian DWDDW Motherwell DWDDD
Referee: Iain Brines

Motherwell’s only league defeat so far was 3-1 at home to Hibernian in September and they face a Hibs side undefeated in their last nine matches – a sequence that has moved them to within two points of leaders Celtic. John Hughes’ men are seeking a fourth straight Easter Road victory and have conceded just three goals in seven outings at home. The Steelmen, five points behind their hosts, are still undefeated on the road, with a win and five draws so far.

St Johnstone (8) v Kilmarnock (11) – Saturday, 3pm
Last five form: St Johnstone LWLWD Kilmarnock WLLLL
Referee: Calum Murray
TV: BBC ALBA delayed transmission
Saints are out for revenge after falling to a recent 2-1 defeat to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park as they aim to add to their single home win, against Falkirk, so far. Killie have slipped to second from bottom after four straight defeats and their only away point to date was a 0-0 draw at Falkirk. Jim Jefferies’ men have netted just once on their travels. Only the Old Firm have scored more home goals than St Johnstone but Derek McInnes’ men have the poorest defensive stats in the SPL.

Hamilton Accies (10) v Hearts (7) – Sunday, 12.45pm
Last five form: Hamilton LWDLD Hearts DLDLW
Referee: David Somers
TV: Live on Sky Sports 3 and HD3

Hearts claimed a 2-1 victory when the sides met at Tynecastle earlier in the campaign and they won two of the three meetings last season – the exception being a 2-0 defeat at New Douglas Park at the end of January when Simon Mensing bagged a double. Accies are two points off the bottom but will go level on points with Hearts should they claim their second home win of the season. Csaba Laszlo’s team ended their barren away sequence by beating Kilmarnock last week.
