Derby draw at Tynecastle

The first Edinburgh derby of the season ended all square at Tynecastle as Hearts and Hibernian played out a 0-0 draw in the lunchtime clash. The hosts did most of the pressing in the first half but John Hughes' side, who are now seven matches without loss, came closest to scoring after the break when Janos Balogh turned a deflected David Wotherspoon shot on to the post.

The spoils were also shared in the Lanarkshire derby at New Douglas Park, where Motherwell twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with Hamilton and stay unbeaten on the road in the SPL. Ross Forbes missed a first-half penalty and Accies had Guillaume Beuzelin sent off before the break. Simon Mensing and Marco Paixao had Hamilton 1-0 and 2-1 up but a great Jamie Murphy strike and an 87th-minute leveller from Lukas Jutkiewicz earned Well a point.

Kris Boyd scored both goals for Rangers as Walter Smith's men closed to within a point of leaders Celtic by beating St Mirren 2-1 at Ibrox. Boyd pounced after only 20 seconds and added a second early in the second half to take his SPL tally to seven for the campaign before Stephen O'Donnell pulled one back for Gus MacPherson's men with two minutes remaining.

Damian Casalinuovo bagged a brace as Dundee United overcame Kilmarnock 2-0 at Rugby Park to stay unbeaten away from Tannadice. The Argentinian striker converted a first-half penalty and scored again in 57 minutes as the hosts were made to pay for some missed chances.

Lee Miller's 83rd-minute penalty earned Aberdeen a 2-1 win over St Johnstone at Pittodrie as the Dons ended their recent poor run to move into the top six. A fine Sone Aluko goal had Mark McGhee's men in front but Liam Craig equalised with 14 minutes left, only for Miller to deny Saints.

Leaders Celtic travel to Falkirk on Sunday for a match that is live on Sky Sports at 12.45pm.
