Ferry fires Celtic to title

Celtic won the SPL Reserve League with two games to spare after Simon Ferry scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over nearest challengers Rangers at Ibrox this afternoon.

Willie McStay's side went into the match needing just a point to secure the championship but Ferry's 70th-minute volley earned them their 15th win in 20 games so far.

It is an eighth successive title at this level for the Parkhead club, who have fixtures against
Dundee United and Aberdeen still to come.

Rangers included the likes of Allan McGregor, Andy Webster, Steven Naismith, John Fleck and Aaron Niguez while Celtic named Mark Brown, Massimo Donati and Pat McCourt in their side.

In the day's other games, Callum McRobbie claimed the only goal as Aberdeen beat Motherwell 1-0 while a Kevin Kyle double helped Kilmarnock defeat Dundee United 3-0 at Rugby Park.
