Celtic coast into semis, penalty joy for St Mirren

Celtic booked their place in the draw for the semi-finals of the Scottish Communities League Cup on Thursday November 8 with a 5-0 win over St Johnstone at Parkhead this evening.

Kris Commons grabbed a hat-trick, although one of his goals was deflected in off Liam Craig, and Gary Hooper and Charlie Mulgrew were also on target for the SPL leaders.

St Mirren are also through after a dramatic 4-2 win on penalties following a 2-2 draw at Aberdeen. Saints were twice ahead through Sam Parkin and Kenny McLean but Scott Vernon and an injury-time effort from Josh Magennis sent the game into extra time.

The remaining quarter-finals go ahead on Wednesday, with Dundee United at home to Hearts and Inverness CT up against Rangers at Ibrox.
